[vmchecker-dev] new version: v0.5-beta1

Hi,

I merged all changes from Adriana, Claudiu and myself.
It's tagged as v0.5-beta1 as there are a few known outstanding bugs,
but nothing critical.

The changes are pushed to vmchecker/vmchecker, please pull from there
before engaging in other work.

Here are some stats about our releases:
* version 0: all bash
* version 1: Python 1000 lines, C/C++ 2500 lines
* version 2: Python 1700 lines, C/C++ 2300 lines
* version 3: first Python-only version: 2000 lines
* version 4: Python 2200 lines
* version 5: Python 5000 lines (3000 code, 1000 comments, 1000 blank)
and Java (GWT) 2300 lines (1800 code)
